Trac’s ‘Vision’ to ‘Taper’ to your Needs

Trac’s ‘Vision’ to ‘Taper’ to your Needs

With so much depending on the performance of your product the need for absolute precision measurement is critical.

Trac Measurement Systems has been working extensively in the Orthopaedic industry for a number of years now and in that time we have designed and manufactured bespoke metrology machines to meet the needs of the industry.  Our latest machines continue on that trend and attack two very critical areas of implant manufacture.

Tapers on implants are stringently controlled with tolerances as low as 10microns. Traditional methods for ascertaining Taper measurement are CMM's and Air-Gauge.  The CMM is slow and capital outlay is quite large.  The Air-Gauge is very quick but cost of ownership is high due to the many masters needed and it is also inflexible.   Trac's ‘Mechanical Taper Gauge' couples unparalleled speed with accuracy typically giving customers a floor-to-floor cycle time on a 30mm taper of 6 seconds and 1 micron accuracy.  The gauge which utilizes analogue scanning gives more data to the customer with the added advantage of outputting straightness.  It is shop-floor hardened and can reside by the machine tool giving the machinist a quicker control of their process.

Product Recall is something that every manufacturer tries to avoid at all cost, it is expensive and can tarnish reputations.  A common concern is that components can be mixed up prior to final shipment with the wrong size part being packed in the wrong package.  The last line of defence should be the Trac ‘Part Identification Gauge' which gives the manufacturer the peace of mind that the correct part is being shipped to the end-user.  Using Vision technology and Trac's Gauge Xplorer software the gauge is capable of identifying all components within Hip, Knee and Shoulder manufacture.

For all those hips, Knees and Shoulders Trac Measurement Systems Ltd is a winning metrology partner.
